Wyre Forest Scouts

Cubs are young people aged between 8 and 10½, who make up the second section of the Scouting family, between Beavers and Scouts.

Activities

During their time in the Pack, Cubs will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, computing and collecting.

There are a range of badges available which Cubs can wear on their uniforms to show everyone how well they're doing.

Cubs also get to go on trips and days out, to places like the zoo, theme parks or a farm. Sometimes they will be able to go camping with the rest of the Pack and take part in all kinds of outdoor activities.

Structure and organisation

A Pack of Cubs is organised into Sixes, with each Six named after a colour, and a Sixer and a Seconder in charge.

Cub Scouts International Camp 2020
07/09/2018 By Rachel Setchell

Dear Parent/Guardian

We are planning to take Kidderminster District Cub Scouts on a residential trip to Acorn Adventure’ centre in Normandy, Northern France on the following dates Monday 25th May – Saturday 30th May 2020. We have used this company before and been to France on previous occasions where all participants had a fantastic time.

Children must be invested into cubs or due to be invested during our week away.

We have used acorn adventure for 4 previous trips all have been a great success with the children taking part in lots of different activities.

This time we have added an extra night and the site is near the beach. It also includes two days trips, one of which will be to Mont St Michel. We have our own coach which stays with us all the time, we travel on P & O ferries. We stay in a tented village which is already set up and cubs have beds in their tents. The team run evening events and games as well as the activities during the day so children are kept entertained

Acorn is the leading independent school travel specialist and has been operating for over 28 years. They offer unique learning outside the classroom opportunities which are effectively combined with true adventure, real outdoors and fantastic activities.

The Acorn experience stretches far beyond the academic, raising self-confidence, motivation and self-esteem. Acorn has an exemplary safety management system and were the first school travel specialist to be awarded the Learning outside the Classroom Badge. They are accredited by AALA, ABTA, ATOL, BCU, RYA, STF, ROSPA and IOL are a reliable, reputable and safe organisation.

The total cost of the trip will be £380 per person, which includes full board accommodation, our own coach for the week and ferry travel, equipment and instruction. All activities and two day trips and insurance. Camp Necker and camp polo shirt

Payments required as follows: non-refundable deposit of £50 due with booking form (first booked basis –50 places available) preferably before 31st October 2018 Acorn then ask for a second deposit by 15th March 2019 and the final balance by 12th March 2020. But we will be working out a monthly payment plan for those who would prefer. Payment can be made direct into our account.

Cubs will need their own passport and EHIC card to attend this trip

If you would like your son/daughter/ward to take part, please complete and return the tear-off slip below and return it to me with a cheque for £50.

Please make cheques payable to Kidderminster District Cubs Please note we can only take a minimum of 35 children – maximum of 50 children who will attend with 10 leaders so ratios will be covered.

Although your child may well be a beaver at the moment, and it may sound quite daunting to you, remember the children will be in Cubs and at least a year and a half older by then, we do have children attending who don’t know any others on arrival but they know everyone when they get home! We also run two events before we go so all the children get to know each other and the leaders. The leaders will be from packs across the district. Parents are able to contact us during the week and cubs allowed to call home ( if they have time). We run a closed FB page where we try and keep you updated with the days events. We will also hold two parents meetings to share further information with you but please contact me if you have any questions

Blog | Welcome
01/05/2016 By Julie Goodyear

Scouting in Kidderminster is welcoming more and more young people every year, and the reasons for this aren’t difficult to understand! It’s all about friendship, fun and most importantly, everyday adventure for our youngsters.

Scouting offers more than 200 different activities, and more people do adventurous activities in Scouts than with any other organisation. In Kidderminster District, we offer young people, both boys and girls, the opportunity to discover their potential through challenges and positive experiences that will enrich their lives.

As Bear Grylls, the Chief Scout, says, ‘Two things matter in life: following your dreams and looking after your friends. That’s what I love about Scouting, it’s about doing great things, loving and enjoying the great adventures, and helping others to do the same’.

There are 12 Scout Groups in Kidderminster and the surrounding area, providing age appropriate activities and challenges to boys and girls aged 6 to 14, as well as 4 Explorer Scout Units for young adults over 14, all run by teams of dedicated adult leaders who are vetted and trained to the Scout Association’s high standards.

Interested or want to find out more? If you’re a young person aged 6 – 25, or a parent, go to the JOIN page or phone our local Membership Enquiries line on 01562 829577 or if you would like to become a volunteer please visit the Adult Volunteer page.
